BLACK SANDS

(8/24/2012) 100 players showed up at for the tournament, and we also had alot of guests that were just there for the party. The weather was just perfect. As usual it was a great way to finish the league play and relax. After the tournament, alot of you poured your hearts out in song with Karaoke in the bar while others danced, played pool, and listened intently. As for the tournament, the girls (Jade, Arlene, and Melody) again had it running smoothly. We did have to pull out the lights this year as the numbers just keep growing so we could not get it done by dark. The cooks never fail to bring a fabulous meal to dine us on Saturday evening and also a special thanks to all that helped set up and tear down the pits, in record time also. Zach did a great job of heading up the operation but he could not have done it without the great support he received from all you volunteers. Wish I could mention everyones name but we all know you did it for the benefit of us, not to get the name on this website! Besides I would probably leave someone out and feel bad. Also thanks to Scotty and Red for making an emergency run to Mtn. Home to retrieve a post hole digger, and Jason for putting his everything into it....... Then 28 throwers who just did not want to go home stuck around for the annual "Sunday After" . The Dutch Oven Cookoff provided some awesome vittles. Lydia Ferguison took third, with her daugther Harley taking both the second and first places. Like they say "you can never have to much fun". Cannot wait til next year......

The horseshoes flew back and forth all day, and we even took a break to learn a bit about pruning trees! In the end Willie and Jim had to defend themselves twice to best John and Zach. JD BATSON MEMORIAL NEW YEARS TOURNAMENT

(1/1/2012) What a great day for horseshoes. We had highs in the 40s and the sun came out for most of the day which really felt alot warmer. Scott Hymas cooked up a bunch of good barbecued pork sliders and others brought other delicious food. He also did a great job with the firepit, which seemed to be a quite popular spot throughout the day. We had 34 players and managed to get done right around 7 pm. Would have been done earlier, but the games went a little longer than normal which should be expected at this time of the year.  What a way to follow up all New Year’s Eve parties.  It was a good bunch and everybody had a great time. Jim and Todd just could not be beat, but Terri and Bill sure tried. By the way, Terri and Bill lost the first game to put them in the loosers bracket and fought thier way all the way to the championship round. Scott also gave a wonderful speech at the end and bought all those still left in the bar a round of drinks to show his appreciation.

1st Place – $68.00             Jim Dennis and Todd Guimond
2nd Place - $52.00            Terri Baldry and Bill Scalf
3rd Place - $34.00             Cade Lloyd and Dale Price
4th Place - $16.00             Steve Burley and Connie Forgey
