WEDNESDAY NIGHT FRIENDS AT THE DUTCH GOOSE

Wednesday night at the Dutch Goose has been a blast. Week One we had 14 throwers show up and did a small mixed doubles round robin. Dave Maynard and Terri Baldry won, with Willie Baldry and Jade Bacus finishing second. Week Two was just as fun with 20 throwers. It was a blind draw double elimination format. Debbie Duncan and Doug Gleason won, with Butch Bonning and Terri Baldry finishing in second. Week Three was held with 16 throwers and was again a blind draw double elimination format. Terri Baldry and Mark Leoni won and Debbie Duncan and Scott Hill took second. Week Four was raining, and those who showed up had a pool tournament instead. On Week Five we had a nice night and proceeded to hold a round robin tournament with five teams. We had a three way tie between Dave Hamman and Spence Tracey, Terri Baldry and Jim Dennis, and Debbie Duncan and Scott Hill, each with three wins. Week Six was double elimination and was won by Dave Maynard and Spence Tracey with a second place finish of Team Baldry (Willie and Terri).  Week Seven we tried something new. We had a blind draw Dutch Singles/Doubles tournament. Everyone played four games with a different partner. Dave Hamman took first with 4 wins and 92 Pts, Scott Hill took second with 4 wins and 88 Pts, and Debbie Duncan took third with 3 wins and 87 Pts. We will keep playing at the Goose as long as the weather holds, and would love to see "YOU" there too!

BLACK SANDS 2011

(8/26/2011) About 150 people showed up to participate in the annual end of season awards ceremony, tournament, and "party". Not sure what the occupancy load of the bar is there, but we had to be pushing the limit Saturday night cause it was packed. A special thanks to Zach Dillon for stepping up to coordinate the pit construction, and letting everyone "Over 50" take a break.Weather was very hot, but most everybody was able cool off in the lake.  It was a little kinder on Saturday, with the skies overcast, a little breeze, and even a little of a sprinkle late in the day.  The Tournament ran smooth with the help of Arlene Haugse and Melody Evans and was again done before dark.  Food was fantastic as usual – the cooks did a fabulous job and many thanks to them and the people that helped shuck the corn and ready the taters for cooking.  The cooks do a lot of extra work the weeks before in buying all the supplies and prepping the food and hauling all the equipment up and back.  Members need to tell them how much they are appreciated for their hard work when they see them again (Bert and Misty Johnson, Willie and Terri Baldry, Wayne & Daphne Amend).

The Pit Crew: Zach Dillon, Steve Pugmire & Girlfriend, Ryan Richardson, Cory Lane, Ki Royce, Aaron Allen, Tim Hix, Steve Burley, Carlos Marquez, Jade Bacus, Dave Maynard, Melody Evans, Scott Hill, and Red Ball. If I missed anyone I am sorry but since I was not there I can only go on hearsay! Thank You

THE BEERHOUSE 2011 JUNE TOURNAMENT

     see more pics

(6/18/2011)  The Beerhouse sweetened the pot with an added $100 and Happy Hour prices for the day. We had 34 people show up to throw shoes, with a chance of rain in the forecast. Well we all know horseshoe throwers luck, so it started to rain about an hour in and the temperature dropped to accompany it. But wouldn't you know it, we kept throwing and I never saw a frown from anyone due to the weather. "Hot Diggity Dogs" came out to make sure we did not starve, and the Beerhouse prevented us for suffering dehydration. The pits got a bit messy, but the shoes kept seeking the pins and alot of them found it. Deb and Brandon put Dave and Todd into the loosers bracket, but they worked their way back and were able to defeat them twice in the end to finish the day. All in all, another successful tournament is put in the books.

1st Place – $108.00            Dave Hamman and Todd Leiby
2nd Place -  $80.00            Debbie Thompson and Brandon Fowler
3rd Place -   $54.00            Jade Bacus and Tom Sipiora
4th Place -   $28.00            Jim Dennis and Aaron Allen

(5/21/2011)  Woody's Pub and Grill (formerly The Plank) put on a great tournament this year, and the weather was quite nice. The sun came out to join us all day long, and left the same time we did to make some room for spring showers. The new owner, Lyle, provided us with a whole lot of door prizes like shirts, hats, keychains, can coolers, and a really nice lawn chair the was won by none other than Gene Lieby. And the way that he threw all day (one out of the money in a really close game), he earned it! We had 32 players show up to compete, and there were some pretty nice shoes thrown all day long. I saw alot of close games that day. All in all, this was one I was glad I did not miss.

1st Place – $64.00            Debbie Duncan and Scott Hill
2nd Place -$48.00            Terri Baldry and Dale Price
3rd Place - $32.00            Mike Dick and Ki Royce

JD BATSON MEMORIAL NEW YEARS TOURNAMENT

(1/1/2011) We started out the day with the torch thawing out the pits.  Scott Hymas did his normal and cooked up a bunch of good barbecued chicken and others brought other delicious food.  Scott also gave a wonderful speech at the end and bought all those still left in the bar a round of drinks to show his appreciation.  Although very cold, it turned out to be sunny most of the day.  We had 30 players (11 women and 19 men) and managed to get done right around 7 pm.  Would have been done earlier, but the games went a little longer because the ground was so hard and the shoes didn’t stay in the pits much unless they were ringers.  What troopers and good sports, especially after partying on New Year’s Eve.  It was a good bunch and everybody had a great time.

1st Place – $60.00             Tom Sipiora and Dalen Curtis
2nd Place - $44.00             Ted Morgan and Debbie Thompson
3rd Place - $30.00              Lyle Gabhart and Spence Tracey
4th Place - $16.00              Lenny Johnson and Roland Duchene
